News: Flash-free Digital Cameras?

Jun 15, 2007

Goodbye redeye. We hate the flash on the camera, and more often than not we notice that everyone leaves it on to ensure they "get their shot." But the flash notoriously takes bad impromptu photos and Kodak may be doing something to stop that.

Kodak is working on a new camera sensor that may eliminate the need for the flash entirely. With their new design they increase the amount of green light detected by the sensor and then after exposure, reconstruct a full color signal for each pixel with software.

We're a bit skeptical, but will definitely keep this on our radar. A flash-free world (at least in the realm of point-and-click digital cameras) would eliminate a lot of bad photos from our friends and fam.

Thanks Soon for the photo!
