Over 90,000 sold over the weekend. Due in part to both Walmart and Best Buy cutting the price of Toshiba's HD-A2 model to around $99 in sales over the weekend.

Gizmodo predicts that this is a ploy to move more units off the shelves in order to push the technology and make room for newer models. We'd guess it also has a lot to do with the upcoming holiday season and predicted chilly spending by consumers. Have you bought a new DVD player lately? Does $99 price tag make you want one? Or do you agree with Gizmodo, and think something bigger is coming down the pipes?
