News: Target to Sell AppleTV

Trying to encourage the masses to buy, Apple has made their latest venture, the AppleTV, available at Target nationwide. Now everyone in the country has yet another late-night Target splurge temptation.

TUAW reports that they won't be available in the stores for a few weeks, but they are already on Target's online store. For those without a local Apple store, this is welcome news. The price is the same as elsewhere, $299.

i'm usually pretty behind in the electronics area of life, so i still have to ask - what is it exactly that the appletv does? is it like an ipod where you download what you want and it plays on your tv? if so, can't you already do that with an ipod?
