Next Year's Gotta-Have-It Gift?: Sony's ODO Twirl N' Take

Growing up, there was always one problem on Christmas morning: no batteries. We had all kinds of shiny new toys and gadgets that were, essentially, useless to us. We'd empty out drawers in search of one AA; then, eventually, Dad would put on a coat and venture out to find a store that was open. What if our gadgets didn't need batteries? What if, like Sony's new ODO Twirl N' Take Digital Camera, we could power them with a little elbow grease? Roll this sucker's big wheel a few times and then, voila, you've got enough juice to take a picture. It's a cool concept. Of course, Sony's Twirl N' Take, has its limitations (which are all in the interest of saving power) -- no view screen, and 15 seconds of twirling will only get you one shot -- still, we really like the idea. You never have to worry about batteries going dead or needing a recharge. We'd love to see this sort of technology applied to so many more things. What if you could self-power your vacuum cleaner? You hair dryer? Your electric toothbrush? Granted, it would take a little more time -- but wouldn't it be nice to have the option? Via engadget Image via engadget
