A gaming system does not a party make. But if you're looking for ways to break the ice at your next fête, the interactive Nintendo Wii gets people off the couch and chatting. If you don't have a Wii—but do have lots of friends with iPhones or the iPod Touch—try this free PC-and-App video game combo: Pirata Boat Race.

Pirata Boat Race is an online game with a play style that's similar to the games on the Wii.

After you've downloaded the free Boat Race iPhone App, your phone or iPod becomes an oar. Sync up your oar with the game interface (done by eithersnapping a picture of the QR code on the screen or entering a unique code) and you're ready to row for your team.

Gather a group of well-equipped techies (the game can handle up to 10 people at once!) and you've got a party—no Wii required.
