No animals were harmed for this new eco-friendly paint line. While the trend for paint in recent years has been a shift toward low and no-VOC, coatings company Unearthed Paints, has raised the bar by producing vegan paints based on ancient natural recipes.

Conventional paints (even the no-VOC options) are made chemicals and ingredients that are energy intensive to produce and make disposal difficult and toxic. Unearthed Paints are based on refined ancient, low-tech paint recipes. They avoid anything petrochemical-based or synthetic, and use few ingredients, which include earth and mineral pigments, clay, marble, and vegetable casein (vegetable protein) and white clay as binding agents. According to Unearthed, their entire line of paints are 100% zero-VOC, biodegradable, and even safe to use while pregnant (great for a nursery)!

Unearthed Paints are even available as a dry powder, which significantly reduces shipping and related energy costs, and will last longer than pre-mixed liquid paints. Six paint options are available in a range of hues, as well as natural and non-toxic plasters, wood finishes, primers and thinners, and pigments.
