Q: Do you have recommendations for a good, not hideously ugly, outdoor swing for a 1-year-old that we can hang in our backyard? We have the perfect unused space under our deck (where we have hung hammocks in the past) and I think my son would love having his own swing this summer.

Try the infamous DIY FIVE GALLON BUCKET SWING!
I did a search for "wooden toddler swing" since I thought that would yield some nice options. This one is really cute:

Ha. ha. ha. I would have laughed so hard if you had used the bucket picture.
I've never seen a really good looking toddler swing so there is a market opportunity. By two, a lot of kids are more interested in the "big kid" version. I do prefer the park version compared to the ugly plastic home version. Requires more physical engagement for the child.
This one is adorable:

@KFARLEY just saw it on SouleMama and was going to post, sooo cute!
I found this through pinterest: http://www.unrulylittlethings.com/2012/03/solvej-swings/
FIFTHPOCKET, hahahaha, laugh of the day!
etsy has a few options if you search toddler swing.
cedarworks, a company in maine, makes beautiful swings for their playsets - but i do believe you can just order a swing. beware that their website and catalog will fill you with playset and swingset lust, though. www.cedarworks.com
My nephew had a Jolly Jump Up. It did not need to be attached permanently, and he loved it.

We have one similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fifthroom-Select-Pine-Kids-Swing/dp/B003V17ED6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337958569&sr=8-1
I have (and love) The Airy Fairy Swing by Habba. You can find it here: http://www.oompa.com/baby-toys/item/HA4828/Haba-Toys-Airy-Fairy-Baby-Swing.html?oompaItem=Haba%20Toys_Airy%20Fairy%20Baby%20Swing
We have a Cedarworks playset and have the toddler swing for it. I think it is pretty cute - definitely more attractive than the plastic buckets or little tikes type of swings. My daughter seems pretty comfortable in it, too. It is made of fabric (weatherproof canvas), wood, and rope.
