Each year during Kitchen and Bath month, we check in at one of our favorite sites, Normal Room, for a selection of real-life rooms from around the globe. These kitchens are not about fancy finishes and high end appliances, but are fascinating to us as a nice peek into how the "heart of the home" is often alike in different countries.

White Enamel Flatwa...
I always enjoy seeing how other people live. Oh, I think picture number 3 is USA and number 4 is Finland 2. I live in San Diego and my apartment has the same cabinets. :O)
@highlander: i'm fairly sure everybody in the US has had those cabinets at some point, LOL!
numbering is corrected - thanks!
Of course number 3 is the US! I used to rag on those cabinets all the time, they are a tad hideous, but my current townhome has them and they're quite sturdy and lovely. The drawers glide in and out perfectly and they feel pretty substantial.
A little more diversity would have been more interesting. 3 Scandinavian kitchens & 2 North American. yawn
I have the cabinets in 3 too! Mine have a wood effect countertop. It could easily have been a UK kitchen except that the kitchens that tend to be big enough for a fridge that size wouldn't be likely to have those cabinets.
I have seen similar cabinets to the ones in picture 3 here in Norway too, I think they were popular in in the late 70s or early 80s?
The reason I recognized it as an American kitchen (other than the fridge) is the stove. I think American stoves look so odd since they are deeper than the cabinets so they stick out a few centimeters in the front instead of being flush with the cabinets. Not a good look IMO.
Also the thing that sticks up in the back (sorry, I have no idea what they are called) were last seen on stoves here in Norway in the 1960s. I was so surprised when I started reading interior design blogs and saw them on even brand new American stoves in new kitchens!
Photo #5 does not qualify as a picture of a kitchen.
Does IKEA still sell that three drawer island (in the first picture)? Does anyone remember what it was called?
