Norrie's Thoughtful Pink & Green Nursery

My Room

Name: Norrie (14 Months)
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

The nursery was the first room in our house that I feel like my husband and I truly and completely decorated. We really wanted to welcome our daughter to a finished space that she could eventually call her own.

The theme of the nursery was "no obvious theme." We simply wanted a space that was cheerful, welcoming, feminine, and able to be played in. To start we selected a wallpaper with a simple feminine pattern that my father hung for us. Because you enter the room on an angle, we only applied it to one wall to create a focal point for the room. From there we painted the walls a light grey with lavender undertones to pick up on the silver dots in the wallpaper, while contrasting with the green.

To soften the wood floors we purchased a colorful flat woven rug. We wanted something cleanable, durable and with a flat weave. This way toys won't get stuck in the carpet's fibers, blocks will stack evenly, cars will roll on forever and baby's crawling knees are still protected. We also added a faux sheepskin for a soft spot to sit while playing on the floor.

A fully upholstered glider was a must for the space. Before our daughter was born we had a barrel chair that we repurposed from another room, but within one week of her birth we knew we needed a more comfortable rocking chair for those late night feeds. So we made the switch and never looked back. In fact, now we love it because two can comfortably sit and snuggle for a bedtime story.

Her changing table was her great-great-grandmother's vanity. We updated the hardware with glass knobs from Anthropologie. Watercolor artwork hangs on the wall from her great-grandmother's 20th wedding anniversary trip to New Orleans. Along with these family heirlooms we made her a mobile with bright and colorful paper cranes — forty in all. Woven blinds and sheer cotton drapes adorn her windows to keep the room as bright or dark as desired. The extra fabric also helps to keep the space feeling pillowy and cozy.

We had so much fun pulling this nursery together and giving our daughter her very own space. Thank you so much for having us!
