North American Animals by Keiko Brodeur
On the Wall : one great print, every Friday. Click through to see each previous week's print. It's like visiting a gallery or museum without that tall guy standing in front of you (and you can probably afford to buy it).

White Enamel Flatwa...
yaaaay! why should safari and farm animals get all the love?
Is that an Axis deer? Those aren't native. And what's that supposed to be in the top left corner? An anteater? Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it's not native, either.
I do believe that while not native, wild asses are naturalized, so I guess they can get a pass.
Yeah, that anteater is really pushing his luck being on this, especially in such a prime spot. He should have, like, 2 inches of snout on there, max.
Peacock pheasants are native to southeast Asia, anteaters to South America. Wild donkeys, the ones that are left are native to somewhere in north Africa or the middle east. Also they look kinda like really bad stickers you'd find at the Dollar Tree.
Is this a test?
North America includes Mexico and Central America. There are anteaters in Mexico and Central America. Based on the coloring, that appears to be the common pheasant, also found in North America. Axis are non-native, but after being introduced in Hawaii in 1860, where they have no natural predators, it's estimated that the herd is increasing in number 20-30 percent a year. They can also be found in Texas. You can check all these facts on Wikipedia, and here is the link that shows the extent of North America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America
I think it's cute!
I think the colors are very beautiful and evoke being outdoors and seeing these animals in nature. I also love that the animals are not to scale, as it makes the print much more visually interesting.
I think this is a beautiful print! I can't wait to get my hands on one. It will go with her other print, Birds of North America. Such lovely composition.
JEDEURMEIER's husband:
For people who look at a website called "apartment therapy" most of you are some really hypercritical, judgmental, and hateful people.
You're looking at a creation. Your fellow human being did this because of the love they get from creating art. You're not at the Smithsonian, you're not at an archaeological dig in the hills of South Dakota, you're not reading somebody's dissertation on phylogenetics.
I believe "Animals of North America" is the title. But maybe she SHOULD have said "Animals that you can currently find living in North American despite having originated in north Africa, southeast Asia, or eastern Europe."
Maybe I should be comforted by the fact that there are apparently so many highly educated home design browsers out there instead of repulsed at the new ways technology has allowed us to break each other down.
I like this. I'll take one.
