What inspired you to use color? In this bright apartment, bold colors really pop. Moving to a new place (I've lived here just under 3 months) allowed me to really 'throw out the old and bring in the new' which I've done here with the recurrent bright orange accents...
Color Tip: Groupings of items in the same color family are relaxing to the eye and make a room seem really "put together."

love your place! the kitchen looks so inviting, is that your dial phone?
the pops of color are great.
Awesome! Really digging the retro vibe in the kitchen.
I <3 your kitchen!
Dear God...not that poster again.
What is it about that poster and its trite sentiment that appeals to so many?
Aw, I missed my chance to post "Odd incapacity of commenters to actually heed the advice of a certain text poster they deplore in 5...4...3..." Keep calm, indeed.
Am LOVING the pops of yellow on the media center, too!
It's nice enough...
...but it's hardly "Bright and Bold" when all the walls are off-white.
Yes, yes, I'm totally riled up and unable to be calm and express dislike of an element.
I desperately want a poster that says, "Stop what you're doing and have a big hissy fit"
i love the place and the poster fits brilliantly for the difficult times we are going through.
I want one for my kitchen, too.
That kitchen is really nice, peppy and fun!
What is it about the awesome "Keep Calm and Carry on" poster that make some AT members want to prove how hip and au courant they are by dissing it?
Just because it was hotter last year doesn't mean it should be thrown into the garbage now that more than one person has one. It's a classic for a reason: good design, historic origins, and affordable price.
Next time, let's all just keep calm and carry on when we see one. ;)
ps: yes, I have one too :)
It's not a "classic." It's a trendy poster.
I never would have guessed you have one too.
Yeah, what's with the poster, do they sell it at Ikea now... Is that why we see it everywhere?
I know it was a trendy poster. But it does have a classic british propaganda look. I guess my point is that some of us buy trendy items because we actually really, really like said item. And we keep them beyond the fad because we really like them, even if tons of people have them too.
cute
this is one of my favorites. i want to know where the chouch is from.
Brookeb21: that looks like the Eugene couch from Room & Board.
Is it just me or does it look like this place is still pretty bland although it has color? Something's missing.
Charming vintage kitchen.
To elaborate on 'alpha's' comment....not sure if it slightly lacks something or just the fact that alot of people hang there pictures/wall hangings way too high. I feel, if the pictures were hung a little lower, it wouldn't seem so 'lacking' of that extra little something.
However, how pictures are hung is a HUGE pet peeve with me...anyone else agree?
Love the kitchen and color scheme, though...nice job!
This is beautiful! So sparkly and clean, the use of color is so wonderful!
I actually like it and think it is a good example (the kitchen) that just a few pops of color in a white room can make a statement.
And as far as the poster goes (I knew the moment I saw it that there would, again, be a lot of complaints):
Yes, we've seen it before and a lot of people on here are tired of it but maybe it is time to carry on to something else??
nazrd, THANK YOU for the laugh this morning. *I* wanna "hissy fit" poster, too!
As a matter of fact, I think I'll design one for my desktop right now...
i like that red/orange color on the chairs. it's fun without being obnoxious.
Love the tablecloth! Where did you get it? So curious!!
You call it Inger's Bright Bold Colors. All I am getting is black, white and gray with some colored knick knacks and chairs to stand out.
This looks like a warm and happy place.
I LOVE it ... but boy ... they kind a bury the voting process. :)
What a beautiful place. It's seems very cozy. I love that the orange color accents without overpowering. Love it!
i know its been a while now, but Inger, can you puh-lease provide some feedback on the Eugene sofa? i'm hours away from R&B but love the style of this sofa! my only hesitation to ordering it is that i haven't heard/read anything about it. please help & thanks for any info!!! :)
HOLY S! I cannot believe this entry is within several votes to "Catherine's Outside Inside" tonight. I will be totally disillusioned with this entire contest if 'Ingrid's NOT SO bright and bold colors' (nothing wrong with not so bright and bold....but dont use the name- how about 'Ingrids's boring bedroom' or 'Ingrid's little devil mask beside assortment of lame pictures'), anyhow- I will be disillusioned with this entire contest is this entry beats the lovely (and actually bright and bold) Christine's Outside Inside. Seriously- are you kidding me people??? ....the kitchen's kind of neat though without that tablecloth- I respect that you put the effort in to enter though.
What a sad state of affairs that this ultra boring confusion of colors and rubbish beat out such a strikingly beautiful entry- "Catherine's Inside Outside" ....and just bearly for that matter. Though I will be sure to continue voting to make sure this nonsense doesnt progress any further....who voted for this and why??? Am I missing something?
Congrats!!! Good for you!
Catherine (of inside outside)
Huh? Inger's & Square Harbors Color Obsession. Once again I am shocked how close this entry is to its match in the votes. Besides the kitchen (once that tablecloth is tossed aside), its' just so ordinary. this isnt a people have spoken...? I thought it determined the best ever, ever room...I thought we were choosing the next aesthetic temple and crowning its maker and praising whatever muse inspired them with a $2,500 gift credit to CB2 ..dipped in platinum. Whatever is 'not' less good....? why do I vote
This could also just be a who-has-the-most-friends-to-email and-get-votes-from kind of thing. I guess that effort can be applauded, but it's not very reflective of a color contest.
I would love for the people who are actually voting for this one to chime in here. This one is just beyond me. drq, I was thinking the same thing.
I've been trying to be very polite and diplomatic about this whole process, but this one? It's a real disappointment that this contest, which seemed to be such a big deal for the AT faithful, has questionable entries like this making it so far.
Inger, your home is lovely. A crowning achievement in a COLOR contest, it is not.
We have the same devil head! Did you get yours in Mexico? Ours is from Isla Mujeres. You've got my vote!
UH-Greed KTG! I cannot believe this dull entry has gone on this long. DRQ must be right about just getting more friends to vote. My mother-in-laws house is way more creative and appealing. Inger's boring home is so uninspiring and the fact that it weasles its way through each time by a few votes makes me more passionate about finally seeing it lose. Ho- Hum, Ho-Hum
I vote for this one!
Am I missing something? This is NOT bright not bold... the couch is gray, the walls are white, the rug is white, the curtain is white, the bookcase and bed is birch, even the bedspread is a dull blue..! and there are three photos zooming in on some very boring vases, which pretty much provide the only pop of color. the bedroom is horribly plain, any average apartment has a bedroom like that! to be honest, the whole place is pretty average - i really can't see anything that sets this place apart from your run of the mill apartments.
the only redeeming quality is the kitchen.
there are so many other more exciting entires where you actually feel the strong design and creative element ... beautiful places with imaginative and fun use of actual colors that got kicked out for this.
sorry for being a hater, but I really don't understand this.
There are a lot of haters around here, but Inger, I think your apartment is lovely. Do you mind sharing where you got your chair/ottoman combo? I've been looking for something similar, and that looks perfect!
i absolutely love the color, pattern, and shape of the chair, ottoman, couch and pillows, but as for everything else, not bad but i could pass
