We've posted some pretty fantastic DIY Headboard Ideas and DIY Bedside Tables this month to really get the creative juices flowing. Well, we've found some more pretty great headboard ideas that would require a little diy to pull off but are a creativity overload!
We're really loving the idea of overlapping empty frames above the bed. Drape jewelry over the frames to create a feminine retreat or hang old scarves for a vintage and rustic look. Many of us bring back tapestries and fabrics from our worldly travels and a great way to put them to use (instead of just throwing them in a drawer) is to upholster a headboard in them. That way you have a great story and you can be reminded of that trip each time you enter the room.
One of our favorite not-so-average headboard ideas is the one using large letters. If you're into this look for a kids room you can easily use letters to spell out a name.

The first three are really gorgeous! I'm loving the frames especially. But for someone like me who reads in bed, this is not practical. I'm thinking the frames and the letters might do better as wall art on the wall opposite the bed. Totally love the idea of using souvenir fabric for upholstery on headboard, tho. Beautiful!!
Love 1&3, but 4 seems most practical. I wish there was a picture that didn't cut it off.
Oh the last picture on the post about it is much better. Love.
Wonderful ideas. I especially like the letters headboard. I have done a similar thing in my own bedroom, only in Braille... Check out this link

Oh I really love number four! Makes me wish even more, that I had more living space so I could do something similar.
I'm just wondering ... what defines a "headboard" these days? In my book (the dictionary), a headboard is a board at the head of a bed -- presumably something solid on which you can lean your back and head in case, for instance, you want to read in bed or your sinuses are clogged.
These installations are cute and interesting, but only #2 looks remotely practical.
hair on a chalkboard... not restful...
I'm a big fan of unique headboards - the current art above my bed is made out of dining placemats. I wouldn't really call it a headboard, but it's definitely the focal point of the room.
Ditto what princessavi said.
Nice to look at, but not practical - except for #2.
I bought a low platform bed for my spare room and was mulling over various headboard options.
End result? Two large brocade-covered dog beds for around $35 from Tuesday Morning. It tickles me pink to see them in the room because they are comfy, gorgeous, the covers come off (although, oddly for a dog bed, they are not machine washable), and they are in scale with the bed upon which they perch.

The frames and letter are my favourite!
