All throughout my childhood we had this stunning handmade Austrian crystal chandelier from the 1930's hanging in our dining room. I remember being transfixed on it many a night while stuck at the table trying to clear my plate (I was not the best eater). Its magical quality had quite an effect on me, and I've grown an affinity for the sparkle and shine of a modern chandelier ever since.
Over the years the once traditional ornate chandeliers have morphed into every possible form you can think of. They still have the same gleaming, lustrous presence but with a modern day twist.
I am patiently awaiting the day I have a space that would do a sparkling, modern chandelier justice so I can stare and daydream at it once again. Here are some great modern finds – from one-of-a-kind hand blown pieces to a DIY Bohemian Chandelier.

I've always loved the Edison Chandelier, but my husband thinks it looks like a huge, creepy spider.
The neon one is totally bad ass!
The glass link chandelier makes me swooooon
The "Edison" chandelier has such a fantastic look, but not worth anywhere near $400. This would be a fabulous hack, quick someone get on it!!

my husband and i finally installed the Lindsay Adelman chandelier i made three months ago and it looks fabulous. I took a while to figure it out, but with a bottle of wine by my side, it all came together. I highly recommend: http://lindseyadelman.com/makeit.php?item=4
i have 2 windchimes from my wedding that look like the 2nd photo, except both are about twice as long.
i'm thinking of picking up a Hemma from Ikea and running it through the center as 2 bedside lights.
thoughts on whether this will work or not?
Actually, that Capiz chandelier was my mother's chandelier!
@rtu, thanks for the link, I've bookmarked it for future projects.
I love all of these ! I inherited a crystal chandelier which hung in our dining room back in CT, thinking I'd hang it in my bedroom in my circa 1902 SF Victorian. Unfortunately, a lot of the overhead ceiling fixtures were wired through the ancient gas pipes that stick out 8 inches from the ceiling limiting my available lighting choices and preventing me from indulging in my chandelier fixation.
I did manage to hang my crystal chandelier in the room adjoining my bedroom and it looks fantastic, but I'd get that Edison chandelier in a second for the kitchen or dining room if I had the ability to actually install it.
@aprilheartsaaron: i've actually been looking for cheap capiz wind chimes to do this with. you should make sure there is some structure to keep the bulb socket in place. there have been several AT posts on DIY capiz lamps, do a search.
I love chandeliers! I have one similar to the first DIY, but mine is made of tiers of thin metal chains. #3 is divine as well. Swoon.
