Better known as Ronchamp (the French town in which it's located), this little chapel is one of Le Corbusier's masterpieces. And this weekend, out shopping, we stumbled across a postage stamp of the work. We were delighted:
Issued in 1965, the stamp commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the chapel, which was completed in 1955. Just another example of the love and appreciation for design found abroad. We would love to see more art and architecture on US bills and stamps. How about you?

I first set foot in Notre-Dame-du-Haut in early 1976, and it took my breath away: it is a building with endless soul.
Another Le Corbusier building that affected me deeply is the La Tourette monastery at l'Arbresle-sur-Eveux. I spent the night there (also in 1976); I have never forgotten it.
There was a 12-stamp series of "masterworks of modern american architecture" that was issued in 2005. Among the buildings celebrated: the Chrysler Building, the Guggenheim (NYC), the Exeter Library, the Saarinen TWA terminal, and Philip Johnson's Glass House.
