Once a year the streets of downtown Toronto are shut down for art. It's amazing to see thousands of people cramming the city streets, waiting in line to see art exhibitions, installations and site-specific performances. Some interesting projects this year: a civic slumber party at a subway station, a free shop where an artist gave away all his possessions and a tent city set up in the presentation center for a luxury condominium development.

I've always wanted to go to this. Alas, having 2 kids under 3 makes it.. too difficult.
I did go to this event and it was incredible as always. Apartment Therapy, you should have hired me as your Toronto blogger (applied twice)! I could have done full coverage for the site. :)

Nuit Blanche is totally awesome!! My hometown (Guelph Ontario) also had its own Nuit Blanche recently and I have to say, having done T.O.'s and our own, Guelph's totally rocked. It's amazing to see your city completely alive at night with live art, dance and music performances/installations. And to come out of a dance performance at a garage at 4 am and see the streets packed with people like it were a street party in the middle of the afternoon, it's an amazing and highly alluring way to rediscover your town. Since that night I have going out to more local events - readings, lectures etc, because it made me really appreciate what a great community I live in. My favourite was watching a documentary on bugs in extreme closeup, accompanied by live jazz.
Paris and NY had theirs on Oct 1st, too. Is there any city that holds an all-night arts fest late October or November? I'm willing to travel. These events have turned into my favourite night of the year!
