When I first came across Arden's room, I was instantly smitten with her mother Reichel's design. It was so fresh with its combination of formal and whimsical elements, the black and white paired with warm wood tones, and a few pops of bright color. And of course, we can't forget the polka dot wall! Read on to learn more about Arden's white and black wonderland...
How would you describe the look and feel of this room?
White and black with a bit of whimsy.
What is your favorite piece or element?
I love the black polka-dots. Using file folder stickers made it super easy and fun to do. And Arden has so much fun with them too.
What was the biggest challenge decorating this room?
The mustard colored sponge painted walls with bright green trim was a definite challenge. It took a lot more paint than expected to cover it up!
What do your friends say about the room?
Everyone loves how light and airy it is and of course the polka-dot stickers are the biggest hit. Everyone always comments on all my usage of white in a toddler room, but I haven't had any issues with stains, dirt or otherwise.
Do you have any advice for parents creating a room for their child?
Well, I think you definitely want to approach the space with your child's likes/dislikes first, but don't despair, if your child doesn't adore black and white (like Arden), there's always a way to make something look chic, like using the cheesiest of cartoon characters in a fun and unique way. For example, Elmo would look pretty stylin' propped up on a vintage steel school chair or Dora's hang out could be a cool, Scandinavian-esque style tee-pee.
If money were no object, what's your dream source?
1st Dibs! A whole world of unique and amazing vintange finds. There are so many drool-worthy pieces on that site, it's hard not to get sucked in.
