Name: Marley, 4 years old
Well, shiver me timbers! We were really blown away by the creativity and level of detail that Monica put into a pirate-themed room for her little boy, Marley, and we can think of lots of little pirates who would love to stash their booty in a room like this.
Monica describes the process of putting the room together:
When we decided to buy this house my kids each chose a room. I asked all 3 of them to tell me what kind of room they would like to have, and my son Marley told me he would like to have a pirate room. I had 3 months before the house was really ours to think of what a good pirate needs. I started thinking and came up with: a treasure, a pirate skeleton, a pirate flag, sea creatures, a parrot, swords and every good pirate needs rum or something so I found a wooden barrel.
Then I started looking for these kinds of items on a sort of E-bay site in Europe and it was all easy to find - I even found the great bed on this site. I painted the treasure chest which he can use as toy storage. On top I added a skeleton and some "old" coins. Next I found the great wallpaper with the underwater "windows" and I was in love.
We picked a heavy blue color for the walls and I decided to make a wooden border as if it is the deck of a boat with wallpaper - it took me a whole day to cut it out. My mom made the two paintings of the bird and the island. Several items came from Ikea including the light, chairs, table and crabs and table. The only expensive thing in the room is the wallpaper/mural.

Great work - we hope Marley doesn't head off for the high seas anytime soon!
