Hillary tells us: For Oscar's room I started with his choice of color, green - and then his love of vintage campers and trailers and all things VW for his duvet cover. I really wanted to make a room he could grow with that wasn't too theme-y and that wouldn't need another "big boy" redo in a year.

The twin size bed is from IKEA and the charming duvet was handmade by Hillary. A real work of art. The built-ins (not permanently built-in) and shutters were vestiges from the previous owners of the house. Hillary painted them and covered the top with faux boix contact paper. She re-invented the shutters by using flannel fabric that was the lining of a vintage boy scout sleeping bag found at the thrift store.

Talent runs in the family. This book display was made by Oscar's grandpa.

Hillary continues: My decorating style... I try to mix the modern stuff I love as an adult with vintage finds - all the stuff I loved as a kid. I always try to incorporate my garage sale loot and eBay wins without making it look too much like a funhouse!

See more pictures of Oscar's room here.
Thanks again, Hillary!

I love the trailer/camper fabric!
what a lucky boy....the room is wonderful! Especially the color and the open space to play.
Fun. Fun. Fun. The green is fabulous. What a great room for a boy that doesn't follow traditional gender stereotypes (sports and blue). Great work!!
who makes/what is the name of the green?
The room is fantastic.
Love it. Love it. Love it.
Benjamin Moore's Jalapeno Pepper paint.
I love Wee Wonderfuls! The duvet is priceless! Thanks for the green paint color name. Great style and room layout.
Beautiful room. If I ever see a plate rack I'll consider using it as a picture book display.
I saw the hippie van fabric at Reprodepot.com :) so cool

love this room -- the mix of vintage and new...hip and homey; just perfect.
Does anyone know where the rug is from?
I'll bet Oscar loves his room I know I do. There are so many unique pieces throughout, and even with all the vintage pieces it still looks very modern. Beautiful job.
this is one of my all-time favorite inspiration rooms for a little boy.
p.s. lindsey, i'm pretty sure the rug is from ikea.
I loved this room the first time I saw it (on another website?) a year or so ago. Especially the mom-made quilt. Love the cars. Also love the desk.
I absolutely adore and love the handmade book display!
Hooray for inspiring vintage!
Love what you've done with the IKEA shelves. Which ones are they?
I used the same color of paint (jalapeno pepper) in my sun room and LOVE it. It is a great color of green.
The room looks beautiful. One question though: Is the Ikea bed the 2009 EINA model currently in stock at the store or the 2008 Lillehammer?
The reason I ask is that I am getting ready for baby 2.0 and am going to have to bounce baby 1.0 from his Oeuf crib into something else. They will have to share a room and I would like something that matches the look of his birch-based crib. I have been eyeing the same bed at Ikea, but the color of the wood seems much darker on Ikea's web site than the one in your photos. Let me know!
I also am wondering about the Ikea bed. Our son will be moving into a big bed and out of the crib a few months after his little brother is here. I like the bed and the idea that it could grow with him through the years but was not sure about the color either (it does look different on their website). Also, I really like the duvet cover- awesome work!!
fantastic shade of green!
