Dear AT,

I have never been great with color and now I am stuck.

I love dark, saturated jewel-tone colors and very dark, black or deep brown furniture (ebony wood, black lacquer).

But I don't want my small apartment to look like a cave...

I saw this idea from the Crate and Barrel catalog and I was inspired by how the light blue rug and thin white curtains really brighten the room even with all the dark furniture:

But here's the problem: my favorite living room chair is deep burgundy velvet, and I can't think of any pastels that go with burgundy except just a neutral beige.

A beige rug might be hard to keep up in a house with two dogs.

What is your opinion on burgundy with other light pastels or neutrals?

Thanks! Summer
