NY Good Questions: Ideas For Redecorating My Apt.?

Dear AT,

I am in the process or redecorating an apartment with my newly cohabiting partner (I moved into his place.)

Looking for some help on wall color and what to tackle next.

My ultimate vision for our apartment is something masculine, clubby, a bit of a vintage classic style with a mix of old and new...

I am picturing a men's smoking lounge or wood-and-leather old library feel.

I am starting with a hodge podge of existing furnishings, that I am not tied to, other than the leather couch which I just bought new.

I am currently thinking about wall color, art, and what my next "big purchase" will be.

I really dislike the entertainment unit, but am struggling to convince my "other" why it is so awful.

Here are some pics of the living room, which is what I am starting with.

Ideas or suggestions on wall color?

I am thinking about BM "chilled Chardonnay", but also was thinking of a sage or dusty grey/green.

Should I re-upholster the non-leather couch (if so with what?) or just get rid of it and replace with what?

I have bookshelves and mounds of books currently in my bedroom, that I want to move in part to the living room, but need to buy a new bookshelf to suit the livingroom.

We both want a traditional, comfortable, classic look.

I do not have any art on the walls, which I really want, but I am trying to be patient and find just the right thing rather than rush to buy something just for the sake of it.

I am spending my weekends at vintage/antique stores and flea markets hoping to find something that grabs me for artwork and also for some vintage floor lamps.

Advice on wall color, arrangment, "next big purchase", what to ditch first, etc?

Thanks! Julie
