NY Good Questions: Light Fixture For My New Table?

I would love your recommendations as to what light fixture I should install above my new 96" white oval Saarinen Tulip dining room table.

The table is 96" long and 54" at its widest.

The dining room is 20' by 14'.

I was thinking of a Le Klint 172 in either the 17 or 33 inch size...

(Note: Include a pic of your problem and your question gets posted first.)

However, I am not sure which size and if LK172 would be perfect or just predictable.

(The room will have additional lighting from sconces which I have yet to figure out).

Can someone please recommend a nice fixture for my new table?

(Here are pics of the table as it was shown in the Craigs List ad for it as well as a pic of an LK 172 ).

I have the Le Klint 172 above my dining table (although its small, square and marble, quite unlike yours) but I can highly recommend it! It looks gorgeous and makes me smile whenever I see it.

I just bought a double dip pendant lamp from CB2 for over my new dining room table, should be delivered tomorrow. I really like the shade and the price is unbeatable.

is it just me or does the table seem a little large for that space?

i'd love to see more pics to get a feel for the surroundings/your style.

I love the table and I love the lamp, but since it already looks like you have two different shades of white (table & chairs) going on in your dining area, I'd really like to see a darker or more colorful shade on your lamp -- especially since your kitchen is open and its tones are so dark and rich.

Some ideas:

Anna makes a good comment about the color, but all white can be nice too. I recently got an oak dinning table from R&B, and put a 36" Nelson Bubble Saucer over it. I love it. It really brings the scale down over the table, and gives off a glow. It creates a more intimate feeling, even in a big space. Don't be afraid to go big. Small can look out of scale. And that table is big enough to go w/ at least 36". Good luck.

I agree - no more white. You need some color! Take a look at the f/ly fixture over at Hive Modern. It comes in lots of colors. Here's the link.

Depends on the look you are looking for... all white works, but I also like the Nut Pendant from DWR to get some modern organic going.

I agree with Anna. That Laviani is gorgeous, and so is the Nut pendant that P2 suggested.

You don't say what sort of chairs you have, or what the rest of your place is like, but in my opinion you need a light fixure that will give you some contrast. Le Klint is lovely and fun, but combined with the table, it becomes dull -- too much of the same.

In Holland recently, I saw a variation of the Mooi Shade Shade light (which would be too out of scale for your place unless you have higher ceilings -- just a guess that you don't have high ceilings) -- there was an armed chandelier (there were a number of different options/sizes) and the coordinating shade was either transluscent black or red. Unlike the Shade Shade, the shade (if you follow me lol!) flared out at the bottom; it wasn't a drum shade. I actually have a piccture of it, but am not set up for flickr (could email it though).

If your looking for a light that is amazing! try a starck long ang hard by flos. you cant get them in the USA but you can from the uk! look at www.scossa.co.uk.
