Dear AT,
I saw this inspiring bedroom of Teresa's, a Small Cool entry, and noticed the beautiful pattern/decal on the wall.
Does anyone know where to get those and do the walls you use them on have to be perfectly flat?
I just moved to a new duplex and with nothing on my walls, it looks like a wonderful option for me, but my walls have a small bit of texture to them.
Anybody have any experience with these and could offer information and advice?
Thanks! Garrett

I haven't actually used it but it's Ferm Living's Sparrow decal. It looks like they have instructions in the FAQs, and I'm sure you could contact them with specific questions.
I don't know about that particular decal, but a popular source for vinyl decals is Blik (www.whatisblik.com), now also sold at Home Depot. They give good advice on what types of surfaces will work in their FAQs. I've used some in my dining room, where the walls are pretty even, but because the decals are glossy, even tiny imperfections are magnified. I wouldn't recommend them for walls with any type of texture.
I have some Blik decals on my bedroom wall, and the wall is textured a bit. When I say textured, I mean that we had to do some repair work to the drywall and mud some spots, so when we did so, they were obviously smooth verses the light texture of the rest of the wall. We rectified that by mixing a little mud (spackle) into the primer to rough up the paint just enough to provide a bit of texture. Anyway, on my walls with that amount of texture, they look totally fine - can't tell at all!

I tried Blik decals on my VERY slightly textured walls and seriously, they didn't stick very well. I ended up pulling down the $80 decal after only a week because it wasn't adhering. (BTW...I followed the application instructions exactly). I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who doesn't have perfectly smooth walls.
I installed a Ferm wall sticker in my living room a few months ago and it was super-easy. My walls aren't perfectly flat -- they have just a bit of texture as well. The stickers come with a little plastic scraper thing to help adhere the design to the wall.
Maybe if you contact Ferm, they'll be able to send you a little sample to test out on your walls before committing to the purchase?
He ...teresa here ...I used different decals with different results. The decal in my livingroom (the sparrow from ferm living) would not stick to the prepainted canvas I had wanted to put it on but stuck perfectly to my somewhat textured (ie spackled over and some rough patches) walls and teh ShaNickers decals (birds used in the bedroom&on canvas) adhered easily onto both surfaces of wall and canvas which both were slightly rough and uneven. So it definitely depends but overall I had good results with both on surfaces that were not "ideal" or perfectly smooth by any means.
My neighbourhood store put them up and the guy mentioned it took him a lot longer than he expected (he put up about 10x blik that look like smaller versions of the pic posted. It sounded like you needed to be patient, and careful. though the end result looks smashing.

urban graffiti sticker adhered to the wall just fine, and they sent samples of different colors, so was able to test beforehand how the sticker would do on the wall.
Fern is the one, mentioned in a prior post, that carries this particular decal. The woman who operates it, Christine, is very helpful. I only know this cause I called regarding their wallpaper.
