Hello AT,

Bridget, good question. We have to admit we have only seen PUR and Britta pitchers in our neck of the woods and suspect that these folks have a lock on the market as they sell the filters that only fit into their pitchers. Now if someone else made a pitcher that fit their filters, that might be an interesting business....
What we would recommend instead is filtering your water at the tap and using your own pitcher or any style you like. That's what we do. We use Pyrex lab flasks around our house.
Anyone else?
Brita does have a plastic one that is narrow, fitting nicely into the fridge, and has a metallic looking lid and handle. It's attractive and functional. Not metal, but not bad either. Has a Euro look. I think I bought mine at BB&B.
Maxwell - any suggestions on tap filters? Everything I've seen is very expensive and I don't know about quality.
I do not like either the pitchers or the end of faucet filters, i.e. PUR. I really like the unsink filter concept that I am currently. It fits onto the cold supply line. Mine is the SFM2 from from Omni Filters. Many others makes and models are also available. I puchased the SFM@ from Lowes, however Lowes no longer caries the Omni line.
take a look here:

under products, the items is called "lisa". it is a hand-blown glass carafe that uses a standard Brita pitcher filter. clear or blue. tastey.
have you looked at the Brita AquaView on-tap filter system? it has a nicer, more technical look than the regular Brita or PUR on-tap systems. it also has a special feature that allows you to take a peek at the filter element thru a small window and see what the filter has been removing from the water.... nifty.
another thing about the lisa water carafe above... this was shown in the july/aug 2005 metropolitan home, which listed a company called Off-Center (800 253-3974) as a dealer.
The "lisa" is very nice looking - anyone know where you can buy it online?
I called the number given in the "Distribution" section of the Stadlerform website (1-480-664-3280), and I reached a very nice man named Ron Peterson. I ordered the matte-finish pitcher for $40 plus shipping. Ron is in Arizona, but the pitchers are in a warehouse in NJ. I should receive my pitcher by around Tuesday; will let you know what I think of it.
Talk about quick shipping! Received my pitcher on Friday, less than 24 hours after speaking with Ron. Very nice piece, which I'm going to give to a friend who has everything.
There is also a fabulous-looking fan on the Stadlerform website ("Otto"). Ron does not import this item, and he tells me that it retails for about $300 in Europe. Oh well.

FYI, the Lisa glass brita-compatible pitcher is now available for online purchase.
A company called Swizz Style seems to be the US distributor. They're charging ~$50 plus $9 s&h. Checkout is through Paypal.
(I'm fairly plastic-avoidant these days, and I don't have kids so breakability isn't a concern. Plus the Lisa is a lot nicer looking than the average Brita pitcher.)
