Our mattress sits outside as space is tight inside
Time Remaining: 7 days
It's been a long day. Pushing hard since 8:30 this morning, Peter and Tino have done a tremendous amount and we are very close to done. We need only half a day more to finish and clean up, and we'll have it tomorrow. They would both like to take the rest of the week to do an even better job of tending to details and putting on more coats of paint, but there isn't the time...
In truth, the apartment looks better than it ever, ever has. It is more than ready for its closeup.
Tomorrow morning is the last of this phase of dirty work. At midday we clean up and tomorrow afternoon, SKGR comes in to wipe things down and move back in...finally.

Our tracklights are in! Whoooooo-Hoooooooo!

We are doing our walls in a two tone, with China White atop Bone White. There have been problems getting a sharp line between the two as the painter's tape tore off lower layers. This is one thing we need to address tomorrow morning.

We've moved most of our belongings into the yard, but these remain in the main room.

We've installed real dimmers on all the switches, which will make a real difference.

Tino and Peter painting up a storm in the bedroom. They hit the plaster with paint right after it dried and moved quickly until they came to the trim. That took hours....

Our bathroom and sconces are slowly coming together. No shades on the sconces yet. The medicine cabinet couldn't be hung because we'd lost the hardware over the preceding weeks. Simon's had a replacement kit sent immediately from Robern, which i am still waiting for as i write.

The dust from the sanding of the walls was thick.

The bedroom skimmed, sanded and painted. It really looks like a million bucks and was worth adding on. Wait till you see the good pics.

The yard has become our home. All of our garbage and all of our possessions are stacked up awaiting the end of the deluge.
when do cabinets/appliances move in?
I am amazed that you have accomplished so much since your last post. I'd say if they want to add another coat of paint and that only puts you 1 day behind, just do it. I'm holding good thoughts for you.
"SKGR comes in to wipe things down"???
She should be resting! Plus, fresh paint and fumes and dust from sanded walls are all not healthy for baby and mom.
Perhpas some ATers in NY can volunteer to stop by Max & SK's place to help with the wiping down and cleanup.
This is amazing progress.
Looking good!
Agree with gekko, someone else needs to do the wiping, dusting for SK should only come into a completely clean, fresh air environment.
I knew you'd get it done!
You're almost there, Maxwell!
If you possibly can, take a little time as a couple to just be--before the baby comes.
agree with louise and gekko, keep baby away from the paint fumes. (i've heard household paint is supposed to be much more safe now but it still makes me nervous). if you do need to get back in the apartment please just make sure you ventilate with fans and windows.
other than that, wow! this is really looking great. very impressive, what a lovely nest you are weaving.
this is really amazing to watch as it all pulls together in the final days. Dare I say the whole thing looks more spacious? Hang in there, guys!
This would be good as a entry for that once a week home is feature on here.
Sometimes something unintionally makes good art.
SK must not wipe down - you'll have to find someone else to do it. It's just not safe. Also good idea to ventilate the place, especially if you are going to be sleeping there right away.
At least give SK one of those white SARS masks to wear over her face while she's cleaning up the dust.
Have to agree with the posters above. (1) Looks beautiful! You should be proud and excited! (2) As a pediatrician, I'm begging you to please, please have SKGR rest until the baby comes. No wiping, no moving heavy objects. As you say, "the dust from sanding the walls was thick." I've taken care of patients who have had severe lead poisoning from their mothers' having inhaled the fumes and dust from lead-baesd paint. And even if you've used lead-free paint (which you've probabaly done anyway), it will really be best for mom and baby if she just rests in the final days. That's why mom's at risk of early delivery get hospitalized and thus ensured to have bedrest. As you've said many a time, she's been a saint during this renovation -now's the time to treat her like one. Plus, even though the baby is still inside the womb, he or she is a fully formed, beautiful baby now who needs the same kind of TLC you will give him/her after delivery! Maybe you can have some friends in the apartment (like your landlord who owes you a BIG one for this gorgeous renovation) help you wipe down and move things?
Looking good! Can't wait to see final pics!
The dust isn't lead based from what I'm reading. The walls were skim-coated, remember? That isn't lead dust and probably isn't even paint dust, I'm guessing it's plaster dust. You can't buy lead paint since the 70's. Let's not overreact.
I understand concerns about mom and baby, but really, I have friends who boogied around doing stuff until a day or so before delivery (like retiling a bathroom floor). Babies are now toddlers. They're just as active and busy as their mums and dads and I don't think the world is ready for them to be any cuter or well-developed. I say let SK do whatever the hell she wants to do! If it means nesting and wiping down, go for it. If it means letting someone else do all the work, do that too. Sheesh.
