apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

9 Month Cure: Sliding Into Home

9-8-apt.jpg

Time Remaining: 11 days

She's big as a house and our house is not done! I'll freely admit that my wife is a saint, and I truly believe that if it weren't for all the incredible hormones flowing through her body I'd be having a really rough time right now. (But it (and she) is looking SO beautiful.) As it is, our little project IS drawing to a close but it's still not finished and we're going away to a friend's wedding this weekend to stay out of the house for two more days while the painting and punch list is finished.

Right now, I am - again - blogging from the bar at the restaurant down the street while they work on the apartment. This whole week has been totally hectic: cleaning up from the installation of the new floor, sleeping at home one night (LOVELY!), recieving deliveries every other hour (running home from the office), and making sure that every little thing gets done, while keeping on the phone with the various vendors and contractors to make sure that everything shows up at the right time.

These pics are not so good, but they do show where it's all at right now at 12:50 am.....

Great pictures! You can really see it all coming together and those color choices are crazy cool. I especially like that bathroom sink, do you mind divulging the manufacturer/source?

Hi, did you paint your bathroom tiles? Weren't they originally white?

the bathroom tiling is very pretty. i'm worried about the fact that there is no kitchen yet.
do you have an alternative site for the mother and child to rest if the baby decides to arrive before the reno is done?
and - is that door to the outside yours? is that outdoor space part of your rental? if so, I think it adds a lot.
GOOD LUCK! (you'll need it)

I am praying that the baby is about 10 days late. lots of first babies are.

My first and as yet, only baby was five days early, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that yours will be late. It's looking fabulous so far and I can't wait to see the end result.

Good luck to you. And Jonathan, take notes about how to speak about your pregnant wife! :P

hearing your kind words about your wife and seeing her beautiful belly photos on her website makes me smile. i'm so psyched for your baby, having the two of you as parents. : )

i've been looking at the same wall-mounted sink for our bathroom! (see the link @ my name) i like that is doesn't come out too far and the asymmetry of the shelf.

Very exciting!

Good luck with finishing up the renovation. Yes, we will all cross our fingers for a late arrival of the little one.

If that doesn't work, you are all welcome to stay at my place!

Loving the sink and the bathroom tile. Still having trouble picturing everything else. Your poor bedroom looks so sad. Look forward to pictures of both of your completed projects. ;-)

Since many of us are in the midst of these kinds of projects, I think it would be great to see a rundown of the vendors and the people who did the work -- good and bad. Share the knowledge?

I'm especially interested in knowing who laid that tile!!

Thanks for sharing!

Maxwell,
I have every confidence, but just so you know, we have plenty of room out here in Brooklyn if the baby comes early and the contractors come late ;)

Yes, I had the same question as crafto -- who put in your tile? It looks very good.

I hope your home is complete before the baby arrives, but, if not, perhaps your wife's doctor can keep her and the baby in the hospital for a few extra days. And I hope you spring for the private room at said hospital, it is worth every penny.

Love the tile Maxwell and we all can't wait to see the finished product. I can't imagine undergoing a complete home renovation, Sara Kate writing a book whilst pregnant, launching another AT site (Boston), blogging from a bar stool, running Apartment Therapy without a single site hiccup (it's been flowing so smoothly here), AND you must have clients and work to do on the side. Plus, you are constantly blogging about a wedding or time you've spent in Massachusetts or elsewhere. Oh, and you just visited San Francisco for the AT launch out there and not too long ago, Chicago.

Maxwell I only have one question, and we can totally take this offline if you'd like - who is your dealer and can I please have his number? I want me some of what you're on!!! :)

You have walls! You have tile! You have bathroom fixtures!

Looks to me like the real worst is over and you're into the home stretch.

Maxwell,
LOVE the neutral paint in your living area--what color is it?
