This is the coolest! Jaren Goh has created an innovative toaster design with the Rollertoaster and even the name is cool. The small footprint is a huge leap forward. We don't think it even needs the cord—have the entire device mount to a wall socket, with a hinge that allows the user to pull it down when toasting and fold it up against the wall when not in use...this would eliminate the need for counterspace (except for your plate). Looks like a miniature version of the metal ones they had at the sandwich lines in the college cafeteria. You probably can't put a bagel in it though. I am a toaster oven fan. Multi-use is key when there is limited space and a toaster like this doesn't make the cut.
Bagels are not meant to be toasted. JP
Wouldn't work for me. What I love most about regular old boring toasters is that you can put the bread in, let it toast, and grab it only when you're ready for it, while meanwhile it sits patiently waiting, still warm. I think it'd be a pain to have to put a plate in front of it first.
My routine is usally: put bread in toaster, heat up stew, put stew in bowl, grab toast and crumble it over bowl of stew.
See? Rollertoaster doesn't fit my lifestyle. Wish it did.
Sleek and useless? My friend this device finally solves the age old toast conundrum. How many times have you sat down with someone who shared your desire for a half-piece of bread but wanted theirs toasted? Waste bread no more! Precision has been brought to the half toast.
very innovative -but 1/2 your toast would be cold by the time the other 1/2 your toast was toasted! I like warm toast that can melt the butter....yummm - thats worth sacrificing some counter space for!
Looks cool, but I'd miss having a built-in crumb tray.

I agree with dnd -- multi-use is key. Normal ovens make perfectly good toast, by the way -- 400 degrees for 5-7 minutes -- as long as you don't want toast during the hot months of your local year.
My bfriend and I are in the midst of renovating our teeny kitchen (click on my name for more details), and so we're living wholly without appliances (and most of our cooking gear) these days. Can I just say that I never realized how easy it is to toast bread on a dry skillet/frying pan? Highly, highly recommended-- you get perfect toast in no time at all, and no need for a hulking appliance wasting precious counter space!
If only it toasted both sides at once mmm.....
Very cool! Where do I get one? (I see its patent is pending, but is should be on the market soon, right?)
I like it, I can never find a toaster with slots long enough to toast this one kind of bread I really like. I'd buy it for a reasonable price to go along with my toaster oven.
It's a simple and elegant solution to the bread-toasting problem, but although it's storage footprint is small, when you're actually using it, more space is required front and back - whereas the conventional top-loading toaster has no further claim for counter space. For ease of storage this is terrific. Much like the commercial toasters in diners, or at least at the diner where I face the day with coffee and toast. And if the shredder ever broke, this you could burn those confidential documents!
I wish I could eat toast. Is that asking for too much? Damn my diet!
"I think it'd be a pain to have to put a plate in front of it first."
Wow, do you have a sad, sad life.
what we need is a butterjet printer attachment to print butter onto the toast as it comes out.
What would be cool was if it buttered your toast on the way out :D

If I find one universal truth in life, it is that toasted bagels are 2-3 notches nicer than mother teresa and 3-4 times more beautiful than some garbage supermodel you see everyday. JP, I don't know who did what to you with bagels when you were small, but don't take it out on them now as an adult. Toast your bagel. Enjoy life.
