It's always difficult to rise on a Monday like today, especially by the hand of a screeching mobile device. There must be a better way. So, I did some detective work and discovered a few alarm clocks so cool that they're almost a pleasure to wake up to.
Karlsson's LED Cube Clock dims itself during certain hours so as not to disturb your beauty sleep.
The motion-sensitive WoodStation predicts weather in impressive detail on a veneer surface, but only when someone is there to see it.
Numbers LED Clock allows you to arrange each digit independently.
Choose any fabric your heart desires to inset into the wood and steel frame of the Fabric Clock by Suck UK.
The gorgeous Nixie Desk Clock has an old-school electronic mechanism housed in a contemporary body, and will soon offer alarm capability.
the nixie tube clock is great, but a different technology than LED.

Clocks w/faces are so much nicer, and illustrate the cyclical nature of time.

I like the woodstation one, but it doesn't seem to be for sale in america. Too bad :(

I share mirandabee's point of view; but digital clocks are often very useful.
The uglieness of digital clocks is due to the horrible form of led numbers and their lack of kerning. The solution to the problem is to make the numbers beautiful and to space them properly. This can be done.
One way to do it is to create 1,440 jpegs, one for each minute/hour of the day; then load these into a digital picture frame display, and set it to change pictures once per minute.

Oof...these are great, but I'm actually in the market for a sunrise lamp, and they are all not only expensive ($130) but uuuuugly plastic monstrosities.

Or are even more expensive ($200) and wouldn't fit in at all with what is already in my apartment:

Any ideas? I do know of the company that makes a plug in that is fairly cheap (http://www.humboldt1.com/~zerdo/srinstz2.htm) but I am having a hard time finding reviews of how well it works...any thoughts?

it's simple to make these. all the basic componants include a wooden frame, an bright l.e.d clock, and matching woodgrain contact paper. if you look on www.readymade.com in the archive section they will explain how to build one for something like 30 dollars.

I really like my new LED Cube Clock. Its definitely an upgrade from my gerbil scratching my face every morning at 6 am to go for a walk.
