Bringing the outdoors to the urban jungle. Catherine Opie is not much older than me, and she was already featured in the Whitney Biennial in 1995. Again, I am a late bloomer. But I have a good eye. Saw these photographs twice in the last week and was really struck by the salty, scrubbed and energetic rawness of these surfers. These are not glamour shots, and I could imagine actually having one of these on my wall in this dense, airless city to give me a burst of fresh air. Remember, I am in a bold, bold, fun mood.
