IKEA's Ornate Frame

7-12-ikea-frame.jpg

Swedish Surprise. Our last trip to IKEA turned up this suprising frame, Ung Drill. Looking rather un-IKEAish with its ornate curls and baroque styling the frame is more like something one would find at Urban Outfitters. We didn't care for the black-color, but we bought it ($24.99) to paint white...

The frame is plastic, so we purchased a special polymer-bonding spray paint designed for plastic. It took a few coats, but the results are stellar. We promise to share a pic soon!

Half of me is yelling "Paint it shiny hot pink!"

The other half is having a 1970s flashback about the class connotations of curly plastic mirror frames.

Mirror, mirror on the wall... looks like an evil snow white mirror. Love it in black... think as a mirror it might be a cool face-framer... re: size.. web link indicates overall dims as 23.24" wide (man, that's almost 2 feet !... loving it more as a mirror) and 33.5" tall ... yum.

I've had one of these sitting in a closet for close to a year now waiting for a coat of spray paint (I've been thinking bright green)! Thanks for the reminder...I'm adding it to the project list for this weekend.

Parrot green, swimming pool blue, bright white, tangerine or coral.

Do you think I have Summer on the brain?! Or maybe just Miami homesick.

Love it! Reminds me of the "My Brothers Frame" from Harry Allen.

I've been looking for something like this. How big is it? I have a large square unframed mirror in my bathroom and want to hang a white oval frame over it.

This mirror's hideous. IKEA's definitely headed in a wrong direction with this one.

foog,
i thought it looked like an evil snow white mirror too- but i think i'd enjoy throwing my head back and doing a loud evil laugh before going out into the world every morning!

I painted mine as well! I nearly stole this off the walls of one of the mock-up living rooms when I first saw it. They hadn't started selling them yet and it was really hard to wait until they did.

An unusual choice for IKEA, but well played and appreciated.

I'm not into this mirror at all. Why not buy an antique mirror at a flea market and put some paint on it?

If I remember correctly, it's not a mirror. It's just the frame. If you want a mirror, you have to purchase that separately. And I think they don't sell a mirror that fits this frame.

Yeah, my parents had a plastic mirror in the 70s/80s. So, I'm not all that into the plastic "faux metal" look for mirrors.
