• Apartment Therapy Scavenger Riian's Michael Jackson Pillow (complete with coordinating pom-pom trim) was made by her friend Amy
• From San Francisco reader Elinor: "I found this little masterpiece at Commnity Thrift back in May. I bought it as a wedding gift for my brother, who as a kid, won a pair of shoes (the grand prize) in Michael Jackson coloring contest. The greatest thing about this drawing is that it was done in '84 . . . there is no irony here! This is the work a true fan! I especially love the fold running through the middle of the paper, the extra "dance" lines the artist included around MJ's left foot, and the dramatic shading of the cheekbone. And yes folks, it came with the frame. Score! Hate to break it to my bro, but MJ might just have to stay with me. . . I guess I'll have to get him some nice dish towels or a set of fine cutlery instead :)"
• Reader Mike from Columbus, Ohio: "My friend Allison found this pillow in Germany in the late 1990s and brought it back to the states in a black garbage bag. Over the course of a few years it belonged to her sister and then to me. It has creeped out more than one visitor to my house and sometimes I have to turn it around. The back of the pillow says "Michael Jackson King of Pop", and I believe it is from 1997."
• Astoria reader Engin: The LP on the wall is an original 1987 'Picture Disc' issue of the "Bad" record which I won through a music magazine's contest in Istanbul, Turkey, where Michael Jackson is adored.
Below on the bench are part of my CD collection of his - the rest is stored somewhere that I'm not able to find yet - there's also the limited edition CD of Dangerous which is a 3D version of the artwork on the album cover. There are the two books he published, Moon Walk and Dancing the Dream, the videotape of Moonwalker, and a scrapbook I had made in my younger days with all the news collected from newspapers, mostly in Turkish. And finally there's the Dangerous World Tour concert ticket from the night I saw him in Istanbul in 1993, which was the best night ever then...

Yes, it looks more like Sally Kellerman.

Suddenly the wiener dog light fixture from yesterday seems not so bad. Its all relative, I guess.

Talk about tacky. These are worse than an Elvis on velvet.
( chuckling silently over here)

What's the point of this? To make fun of him? That will obviously be the result.
This is certainly more tasteless than any Jackson "decor" you can find.
The man was a tragic genius.

Yes, I agree the Lladro is disturbing. Has anyone let Lladro know that Americans don't really buy into images of little Indian princesses wearing blue headbands with feathers any more?
Also, there is so much sadness in the life of the "King of Pop" that I am not in favor of tacky "ironic" references to his life.
As a kid, he was beaten by his father to perform. He was ruthlessly exploited his entire childhood.
He never came to terms with his sexuality because he came from a fundamentalist culture that does not tolerate homosexuality, the same culture that is opposing gay marriages in California.
The skin whitening and plastic surgeries are tremendously sad and horrific.
It's no surprise he died young of drug abuse. It's surprising he lived so long. And many unfeeling and uncaring parasites will continue to live off him.

Regardless of his odd behavior and unproven child molestation charges, he was a true musical genius. I am pointing fingers at no one so far, but a post like this is just an open doorway for tasteless remarks.

We all know Michael Jackson always had an eccentric style. It's not at all worse than what these other shallow celebrities could have in there big mansions. I think this post is to celebrate the stuff we kept over the years MJ related. Everyone between the ages of 25-75 has had at least one MJ related item (aside from music) in their lifetime (I just had the doll, but I believe my older sister had the bedspreads).
As far as the comments, can we just keep it related to the post? If I wanted to hear about the negative comments about his life, I would just turn on the tv. "Beat It" Debbie- Downers!!

There are some things I can't make excuses for.
And all this stuff, save the pillow and the record player, are creepy.

Boy, I'd love to have one of those Jeff Koon's Bubbles & Michael pieces!
view LuvModern's profile
Instead of judging these pieces (and Michael Jackson) specifically, can we all just agree that "artistic" likenesses of celebrities are NEVER a good idea? It astonishes me how people buy into the culture of celebrity-worship in so many ways...from High School Musical bedding and Dora the Explorer swimsuits for their kids, to replica uniform jerseys of their favorite sports stars, to coffee mugs featuring characters from The Office...in my opinion, it is ALL bad, tasteless, and indicative of an appalling lack of originality.

The poor man's last ten years were spent in the shadows. All of a sudden everyone wants to relive the years he was a glorious young performer and seemed so full of promise.
I think it's more helpful to explore what drove the man into the shadows than sit around and talk nonsense about how Jackson "broke down" racial barriers and "raised the standard" for performers. He was an eye-popping perfectionist when he was in control of himself, but he was kind of a scary guy when he wasn't. If you glorify one aspect of his being, you have to take a look at other aspects of the man.
These celebrity post-mortems about Michael Jackson's "genius" miss the bigger point -- he destroyed him own life, enabled by licensed pill pushers.

This entire thing is cringe-worthy, as was the last 20 years of that person's existence.
And do tell:
What does this have to do with the objective of Apartment Therapy? Why aren't we posting Farah Faucet posters photos of Ed McMahon's house - After all, they died this week too.

That first one is creepy ...

Also wanted to add, may he rest in peace.

And now Billy Mays has died. He is probably shouting at Ed, Farrah and Michael in the great beyond.

i never thought of apartment therapy as being my source for late breaking gossip!

Jackson did not lighten his skin. He had a common medical condition called vitiligo which affects 1/100 people worldwide and in America - across all races. India has an unusually high rate of 8/100 people. You see people with vitiligo all the time in some degree of transition, whether you realize it or not.

Yes, Billy Mays is dead:

IMHO, He deserves a bigger spot on AT than Michael Jackson.
view bepsf's profile
Gee.....I bet A.T. didn't realize, there would be all these reverential and looney M.J. comments!
I think Jeff Koon's vision/intent was rather prolific. The wonderful, gross, gaudy sculpture is like a big mirror right now.

ohjodi... I for one am not here to make "fun" of him.
I've had my issues elsewhere about this, doing what I could to fend off the vultures, where it came to very heated words over the man's talent and contributions to pop music. I grew up to his music, and coupled with watching such a public figure like this move in directions that were difficult to accept or understand, and generally feeling sorry for how out of touch he became..... all those "Yes men" around him enabling him, nobody there to act as a true soundboard and provide a system of checks and balances. It's doubly sad that he was poised to make a career comeback, and perhaps at least redeem himself there. Something inside me always felt.... "poor guy...I hope he comes back around." Now there is no chance of that, and that is the saddest cut of all.
All said, that Lladro is still very very strange.

Is there a post about Farrah posters too?
Let them all rest in peace, and let US all move on, I say.

That stuff is all creepy. It was creepy when he was alive it is creepy now he is dead. And yes, tasteless.
And..I am between 25 and 75 and I have NEVER had a Michael Jackson anything. Including music. I didn't like him then, I don't like him now.
That aside, the dude never stood a chance, look what was done to him by his father and mother.
We have one sick little culture boys and girls, feasting on the dead. It is truly goulish.

Including a HUGE airbrushed painting of varioyus MJ's from the 70's till now with the phrase "HAVE YOU SEEN MY CHILDHOOD" airbrushed in bright yellow!!!
