The birth of Tom Beshara's first daughter, inspired the Pirolette. As Tom says, "My secret, it was a personal memory of when my daughters were so young. What the Pirolette turned into was a conversation piece. Someone would start to look at it, maybe they would see one of my daughter's faces...maybe they wouldn't...but it never failed, they would always ask what it was."
Tom now makes Pirolettes to order. Send a photo of your loved one in profile and, using a lathe, he'll transform it into a solid hardwood mini-baluster. We find them subtle and endearing. And if you are intent on giving the product a purpose, other than chotchka in your home, incorporate it into an heirloom piece of furniture for your child.

It would be beautiful to get a whole family of them done, then put pillar candles on the top of each and group them somewhere. They would connect, but would each still be unique.
This is fantastic.
Reminicent of the turned Mid-Cent-Modern end tables and at the same time shadow cutouts of a bygone era, I simply love these. Well done Tom, well done indeed.
Very nice! I like angie's suggestion about grouping a family and placing pillar candles on them. It would also be interesting if the top portion was hollowed out so that you could put some fruit or a small plant in it.
Remarkable.
HI Tom, beautiful work and beautiful daughter.
Please excuse me for interrupting this chain, I am a blog rookie and do not see a new open thread today.
I am coming to NY tonight and was wondering if people could direct me to the best areas for independant, funky boutiques etc. Used to be below Ludlow in early 90's should I visit Williamsburg? any specific streets?
Again apologies Tom and please redirect me if there is a more appropriate place
This is incredible!!
a pillar candle display was also the first thing i thought of. these are truly beautiful and i think they would make really wonderful baby keepsakes. definitely better than the disembodied plaster hands and feet, which really creep me out.
That is the most amazing piece of work I've seen in a long time. Stunning.
It's a neat idea, and they are nice looking, but I don't see what all the hubbub is about.
I also don't get hub bub?
ami--
I would be the "fruit bowl" of the family.
this is incredibly beautiful, and i would imagine very difficult to create. i love it!
Tom,
Very nice. It is so great to have such a talent to be able to make things. I, too, thought of candle holders when I firt saw this piece. I have a true love of candles and grouping them. You could make them different heights which would have a great look.
