Portia Wells: West Coast Portraits

12-2-portia.jpg
Thanks to Guido's Flickring us from Matter yesterday, we discovered Portia Wells and her charming "West Coast Portraits" of all things aside from people. As she writes:

Identities are constructed through the items we own-- they begin to act as portraits of ourselves. Silhouettes are often referred to as the poor man's portrait and are thought to reveal a sort of inner truth.

Very West Coast, no? Guido also says these are none too expensive, which is another nice thing.

hey dani, you can!

$69 per . . . she made them as a series, but is selling individual pieces. I liked them so much I ended up going back to buy a couple.
I'm totally thrilled to buy original art - it so rarely seems like a real possibility to me...since I'm always seeing things that cost in the thousands...

You can click through to her website for a look at the rest of the series "West Coast Portraits"
There's also an email contact if you can't make it to the shop in Brooklyn before the show goes down in January.
