1-12-rrsk2.jpgIf you are looking to lionize yourself (or lover) at low cost, then RRSK could be for you.

RRSK Studio, started by Ruth Ro, is part of the new breed of online art galleries that let you collaborate to shape your final piece. They tend to have less of the human touch about them, but then Andy Warhol cured us of that.

The colors are good, and art IS in the eye of the beholder.

1-10-rrsk2.jpgRRSK sells 3 different graphic approaches: Pop Portrait, Fluid Portrait and Logo Project. For each one, you supply the photo or choose the typeface, arrange online and press on "submit". Easy.

Prices run from $125 - $400, and your artwork comes to you within a few weeks.

Seems like a great DIY idea - find a photo you like, run it through the Cutout filter in Photoshop, then use Image>Adjustments>Gradient map to make it the colors you like. Then print it out, cut out each section, lay it over some cardboard and cut it out to make a stencil.... etc etc. It's kind of a pain, though, and that price really isn't too shabby.
Still, for those who like to DIY, this could be a fun little project!

Yeah, if you had the vision to be able to figure out what would look good enough to send them, you could probably figure out how to do it yourself. BUT... you might be better off having them do it for the price, because since they've probably done a lot of them, they've probably got it down pat, and would make it quite nice. I think it's a wonderful way to keep your place from looking too impersonal OR too grandmother-y (no offense to actual grandmothers who might be blogging here, but I think you know what I mean).

OG -
Clearly you aren't the kind of grandmother I was referring to. YOU know what I mean. You can't fool me, lady!

For the DIYers out there with Photoshop, you can download the file at www.americanframe.com and they will print it out on any of several nice papers or even canvas. I love their website as you can tell from my earlier posting http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/121704/onlinecatalog-only/american-frame-001664

A follow-up to the DIY posts; I've actually started doing something similar myself b/c I'm too cheap to pay for something that's 44" x 32" or bigger. I use Corel Painter Essentials and find that the "woodcut" works very well too. Rather than print it as one big image, I've printed it on 16 separate 8"x11" sheets of paper and now have a composite picture that's all mine and all original.

And for those that want something even more unusual, see the attached link from Stencil Revolution.
