"On Flatbush, right next to the Toren Tower and the Mobil Station." - Instructions on how to get to Esty offline
From Last Friday: Where the heck am I? Why so late? I just got back from visiting the folks at Etsy in Brooklyn and stayed way too long because it was too fun. Etsy, though a bit younger than AT, has grown quickly as buyers and sellers of handmade items have flocked to the one good place they can all get together. And it's not just about purple tea cozy's anymore....

Welcome to Etsy!

While you were there, did you tell them that had to SERIOUSLY improve their search function on there? I can never find what I am actually looking for.
Also, sorry if I missed the explanation, but what is the deal with the some of the photos? The folded look is kind of a distraction.

Hey, the folded look is a stitching together of 2 or 3 pics. I don't have a wide angle camera, so it's the best I can do right now. Some work better than others, however.

I have a shop on Etsy - www.aliaschman.etsy.com - and a recent newsletter said that they are working on the search function. I liked seeing the office and lab space; I keep meaning to attend one of their craft nights but it never seems to be the right time.

Maxwell, if your camera has manual exposure settings, you might be able to solve the "folded look." The colors are different because the camera is changing exposure time and apeture so if you can control those, pick one that works and stick with it. You might also have a "panoramic" mode on your camera that's designed to let you take a series of photos for later stitching and those often lock the exposure settings, too. Good luck!

Ditto Pixie's comment about the folded look. Makes the photo look more artistic.

It's just a photo. There's a whole article/slide show behind it to look at! It's nice to know they spend their time doing messy crafts to incorporate into their space at Etsy... would be a fun place to work.

I check out etsy often and would love to attend the etsyLab with some friends, but 4-8 is just too early. Most ppl don't get home from work until 5 or 5:30, and to show up at 6 seems too late to join in the project and learn whatever it is they're teaching. Please, please, please etsy customer service people and etsyLab people, make the class a bit later and you'll have a few more devoted attendees.

Maxwell, thanks for sharing this Etsy tour! I am a bona fide Etsy addict/seller/buyer ... second, to AT, that is! Etsy looks like a fun place to work. It will be interesting to see how the company evolves over time.

I love these guys...even though I've never met them! Etsy has given me a way to sell my art and still give time to other parts of my life. It's truly one of the best ways for an independent artist to get their work to the public directly.
...and I hope to get to an Etsy lab soon!
