Not everyone has enough room for two big, comfy armchairs, but most of us have enough room for at least one. The ones listed here are favorites for different reasons, but I won't hide the fact that the one I love the most (and which I have purchased for clients) is the one up top, designed by Vico Magistretti. Someday, someday...

>> The Raffles Armchair by Vico Magistretti at DePadova ($$$) - Aside from the soft, linen fabric, what I love about this chair is the generous proportions and styling that are based on an English rollarm armchair, but which become much more stylish seen through the eyes of an Italian.

>> The Elliot Chair by Mitchell Gold ($1500) - I found this chair about a year ago out in a catalog for Tucker Robbins. Mitchell Gold has horrible merchandising, but great product. The beautifully photographed version of the Elliot in the TR catalog really showed what this chair could be with linen seating and a soft brown frame. Since it's also a bit smaller in scale, this is perfect for apartment living.

>> The Ross Chair by Crate & Barrel ($1200) - The latest classic armchair from C&B's eco line of furniture, the Ross has elegant styling, soft linen fabric and is made of sustainable hardwoods, with (among other things) soy based foam and corn based fibers. Our first fave in this collection was the Lockport, which we've sat in at friend's, and the Ross is its successor.

Very, very nice, but do you have to steam clean this or what?

I'm afraid of white, unless it's a slipcover. My white shirts just ATTRACT coffee.
