2009-10-01_1719.pngOne word and and one store is not enough for Christiane Celle, the French born founder of the Calypso empire, who left Calypso in 2008 and has now embarked on building a new one. I sat with her this morning in one of her five new galleries in SoHo and heard her whole story. The style is back.

I was honored to meet her, as I had watched Calypso lose its soul over the past year and close a few stores (I bought our favorite sofa there) while her Clic Galleries & Bookstores were suddenly springing up like promising new shoots amidst a damaged economy.

Clic is a project devoted to showcasing Christiane's love of art books and photographs. Unable to enter the fashion or home design business business due to a non-compete agreement, she has set her restless spirit to work collecting other beautiful things and selling them at affordable prices.

Like her work with Calypso, Clic is intended to be aspirational but approachable, and if you can't afford a photograph, there's always a book. Don't know how to frame the photograph? She'll sell it to you framed.

What drew me in was the selection. As with Calypso, you can tell there's a creative, quirky and vibrant person behind every thing you see. It made me want to buy a photograph right there and then. To give you an idea of the range, check out the selection of pics above and below. There are new shows every month at all stores and everything is carefully collected online, so that if you miss it in the store, you can still refer to it online and buy it later. Christiane's Clic is a great new resource.

Christiane is so visionary, warm, brilliant and sweet! The fashion world's loss is the art world's gain!
