Look! Lighting & Doorway Inspiration from Thomas O'Brien

Aero_0919.jpg

I snapped the picture above in Thomas O'Brien's Soho shop last week. While O'Brien is amazingly talented and prolific, it is hard to find his style all in once location. His designs spread out among vendors as varied as Target, Waterworks, Safavieh and Reed & Barton, but in his Soho shop, you can see the whole vision in one fell swoop. I recommend a visit.

I took the pic above for two reasons. One, the door in the background is crazy, neat idea. It goes all the way from the floor to the ceiling - over 20 feet with 6 hinges in high gloss black! Just try that at home. It's one of those totally simple, but out of the box ideas that can transform a space.

The other reason for the pic is that I love the large chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. Called the Farlane, it and it's sister collection, Vendome, are among the most beautiful, elegant, slender lighting designs I know of and combine a perfect balance of modern and traditional sensibilities. Take a look.

Farlane - 34" - 60" x 48" - Canopy: 5.75" Round (Slope Mount Included) Shade: 3" x 5" x 7" - comes in four finishes and starts at $1,260

Vendome - in one, two and three bulb designs - comes in four finishes and starts at $189
