Martha Gardikas: Order Up

Martha Gardikas is a photographer who has done a series of large photographs of coffee shop tickets. Her show is called Order Up, and you can see it at the Grey Dog at 33 Carmine Street in NYC....

These photographs are much bigger than the actual guest checks, which makes them particularly arresting in person. What's the draw? The classic design of the paper forms and the rich color that Martha has drawn out of them by photographing them so closely under such bright light. And then there's the cheerful, pleading notes for the kitchen...

I thk this's cool. I'm still looking for the diner cheques that have a 50s drawing of a waitress on them. plus they usually had the decade printed too, 197_. like the 70s'd never end.

Wow, lots of haters.

I've seen the photographs in Grey Dog (I eat there at last once a week) and I have to say they are much more cool then the pictures (and comments!) above are giving them credit. Sure, they are Warhol-esque, but they really fit the mood of the cafe and are interesting to look at.
