Dept. of Bits & Bobs - We got this really nice water bottle on our table at a small good restaurant called Little Giant. I looked at it and said to Sara, "that's so cool. I bet it's Ikea."
Bingo.
Sure enough. Ikea.

Sure enough. Ikea.

But not in the US. We found it on the Ikea UK site. The owners of LJ must travel.
>> SLOM Bottle
Another import. In the meantime, we've got Lorina bottles...

You can find bottles like these at any home brewing supply store. The call the easy-cap bottles. The come in a variety of sizes and brown and blue as well as clear.

An old wine bottle works fine as a water carafe too...

I actually bought 5 of these bottles during a trip to Minneapolis in the summer of 2007 from the Ikea beside Mall of America. They are great if you want to bring anything liquid to work because they never leak.

I bought a bunch of these at an Ikea in LA a few years back.

These are at Ikea Brooklyn as well. I use them for infusing vodka.

As far as the debranding push goes, if you can recognize a nondescript kind of glass bottle with a stopper as coming from IKEA, you might have arrived at a special little contrary purpose.

OMG! Just yesterday I used mine for a homemade spiced simple syrup (water, sugar in the raw, anise and ginger - try it)! I got mine at the IKEA in Hicksville. I'm sure Brooklyn has it too.
I like the Vodka infusing idea... thanks for the tip!
HAHA! @ KTG! I think you make a very good point on the debranding. I'm not sure if they ever set out to "debrand" themselves. As a matter of fact, I'd dare say that they're quite proud of their IKEAnese, and think that this in itself has always been a type of branding (not as in-your-face as other stores) but you know...

There is a great prosecco that comes in a self-stopper bottle. Green tinted, but great for making infusions. Plus, you get to drink the wine first! http://biztos.blogspot.com/2007/05/villa-teresa-prosecco-veneto.html

'slom'? It would be nice to know a little Swedish vocabulary.

Canadian Ikeas have them.

It's on the Ikea US site: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50108908
They have a few different Slom containers.

According to this site, useful to bottle dating and typology, it is called a lightning closure. Looks to be the Hutter.

"Lightning-type closures are also found today on various foreign beer bottles, some decorative storage bottles & jars sold in "import" stores, and likely other bottle types. The lid portion of modern Lightning-type closures are usually made from plastic but still have the rubber gasket for sealing." (emphasis mine)
