This Velorbis takes its curvilinear shape from the "subtle, smooth lines of the female form."

9-2-dutch.jpgSorry to do this to you again, but I've got to get it out of my system. In my search for super cool Dutch bikes, I've found one more main resource in the US,The Dutch Bicycle Company, located up in Somerville, MA. Like Dutch Bikes Seattle, they stock the classic Velorbis frames, but they also have others that I'd never seen, including...

SÖGRENI - Holland
Johnny Loco - Holland
Sorte Jernhest - Denmark
CoBi Bike - Holland (this bike carries 7 people at once)

8-25-email4.jpg
The Downtown (takes it's shape from the non-subtle, ripped lines of the male form)

And a number of hand built, one-off frames that go by the names of "Secret Service," "Downtown" & "The Woody."

So, if you have a hankering for a bike and are contemplating RIDING to work and not burning more pricey gasoline (hey, I hear that this is really happening lately), here's another bookmark for you. And please remember, we only cover this stuff during ESCAPES MONTH here at Apartment Therapy. Next month we move on to pets...;-)

fietsfabrik bikes are amazing. absolutely awesome, like wheelbarrows with a bike attached. too bad new york has no decent bike lanes or bike culture-- I'd be scared to cart kids around here they way they do in holland.

That first picture is hilarious. Who puts on their slinky summer dress and high heeled pumps to go on a bike ride?!

MelissaLeigh, lots of women don slinky summer dresses and high heeled pumps to ride their bikes, maybe not in the USA but they do it. Check out the dozens, maybe hundreds of photos at Copenhagen Cycle Chic.

Also, I think this is the same company that's been based in Florida for years, long before cycling became cool again.

I second that - I bike to work every day and I wear heels and skirts very frequently to work. Biking in heels is just as easy as biking in sneakers, since you are pushing with the balls of your feet. And in terms of skirt - the dress above is a bit too slinky, but any knee length skirt out of moderately heavy fabric will work just fine on a bike.

PS: Wow, emilito, what a cute website. THANKS!

This website is also fabulous...

http://store.curbsidecycle.on.ca

It is a Canadian company that ships for FREE anywhere in North America. They sell Batavus (Dutch/Danish), Pashley(British), Koga Miyata (Dutch) and more.

I bought my Batavus from them, and they were extremely helpful. My bicycle is SO great, and I'm glad it's not an Electra, like everyone else's...
