Chapter seven might be my favorite chapter. Not only was it designed to give you a little slowdown, so you could catch up before the end, but it also deals with with the bedroom, which is a fabulous space to work on, it can change a lot with just a little attention and you appreciate anything you do immediately when you get a good night's sleep...

Aside from the job of cleaning up, the pleasures of buying new sheets and experimenting with new colors in your bedroom, I would say that the most important thing to focus on is your lighting. The bedroom is definitely a room where people underdo their lighting and rely too heavily on the single overhead fixture. This will not only create shadows that will make the room feel smaller, but it will also kill any great color that you have added.
Start with three points of light - two bedside lamps and a dresser lamp - and take it from there:
Can you get a light fixture into your bedroom closet? Do it, and make that space open way up.
Don't have a lot of room at your bedside for a table lamp? Attach one to the wall or use a floor lamp instead.
Don't turn on your lights often enough? Install a remote control so you can flick one switch when you walk into the room.

The other thing that is important to focus on in this chapter is proper art hanging. I've spent a lot of time on this subject, but I urge you to really look at your walls and use the 57" rule. It makes a big difference and you will find that you never have to stop for a second to figure out where on the wall to hang anything again.
Thinking of hanging art over your bed? Try to avoid it. I favor two smaller pieces on either side instead.
Wanting to hang a series of pieces? The 57" rule still applies, but now simply make the center of your series at 57" and treat the whole thing as one.
Not sure if something fits in? Lean it up against the wall, step back and take a look. If you have a doubt, you're probably right. If it's just too much, move it to a place where it can hang by itself and won't seem to jar with things around it.

That is a really great birdhouse nightstand!
We need to figure out the lighting in our bedroom. There is no ceiling light whatsoever and our side lamps aren't really working for us. I find I'm always staring into the light, maybe we need darker shades. Although I have been toying with the idea of directing the light towards the adjacent wall, I just haven't really ironed out any details.

Looks like thumb tacks holding up the felt upholstery. I would use mirror mastic gum to mount felt.
I used grey fedora Flor tiles in my room and mounted with mirror mastic. Works like a charm and does not warp in dry or humid environments. It also looks clean.
