Today's Email: Favorite Finnish Tableware from 1962

12-19-emailicon.jpgHey, all of you who aren't getting the email - squiggle, marie, chris - annapolis, and others - let me just say that Topica (our email publisher) really, really sucks and we know there are all sorts of problems with their deliverability. Which is why we're switching this month to a new email publisher and then we can GUARANTEE you'll get it. In the meantime, I've added your three emails manually and will do so for anyone else who has this problem. Just tell me in the comments. And let me know if that doesn't work.

Stay on the pulse with a double shot: blog + email. If you're not signed up, go for it right now (on the upper left nav).

While you're changing your email system, you should also change your email signup process. There's a box on your main page that says to type our email into it and then click "Sign Up!" but doing so just takes us to another form where we're supposed to type our email address - which we just did. In other words, the first box is either a fake, or it's just plain confusing.

I agree with everything above. Let me know when I can reenter my email. Thanks!

Also, while we're on the topic of bugs: I have never been able to post a comment from Firefox (on a pc). I always get error messages and have to post from IE, which is a huge hassle. (At home on my Mac, posting on Firefox is fine)

I signed up and got the emails for a few weeks, but then they stopped coming. I looked in my spam folder and everything, but they weren't there. Please add me!

The sign-up never worked for me either but I haven't tried again lately because before I do, I would like to know what "the list" of our email addresses will be used for:

"Hmmm. well we're set on getting this email right so we're moving to a new company next month that SHOULD take care of all our delivery and sign up problems.

As for posting them, we need - for the time being - to delay the posting of the emails to the site in order to add more value to the email as we build the list. I want to make sure that the content is available in both places, so you'll find it archived daily. Eventually, we may be able to publish them simultaneously.

Dear Campari,

Topica's sign up is so buggy that we're abandoning it, though it's going to cost us a lot more to do so. A lot of email companies that are cheap are cheap because they're not too good and don't have any customer service. This is true of Topica.

As for email addresses, we keep them all private and DO NOT let them out for any reason to any other party. You should know this about us by now.

Your quote from my post above refers to wanting to build our email list and make it a separate "channel" than the blog. If we merely post the same stuff to the email that we blog each day, it becomes redundant. Building an email readership where we can do different things is what I am after, not farming for email addresses.

Thanks for the reply; I'd just like to know what the list will be used for, that's all. What are the different things?

Thanks for your reply. The list will be used only for emails that you sign up for. As for different things, I am experimenting with making the emails more personal, more pictoral and more longer form. Although long can be deadly ;-).

It's just such a different media that I feel it deserves a different approach, which I am still feeling out, so what those changes are - we shall see....

Best, Maxwell

Thanks! But . . . I haven't received any yet! I don't mind just waiting for the new system.
