AT Europe: Create an Extra Corner Room with Sliding Glass Doors
Paris, France

The sliding door is a friend to those with limited space. These sliding corner doors from Kazed and Castorama allow you to create a dressing room, office or other private area in the corner of a room. You can choose from lacquered glass, beveled glass or a mirrored finish. Cote Maison Magazine did a feature this month on their website with a multitude of other sliding door options.

These sliding doors from Lapeyre have different finishes on each side to blend into your surroundings. You can choose from nine different woods, six different lacquered glass finishes, or mirrors.

Love sliding/pocket doors - Wish more apartments and homes had them here in the US.

is there an affordable source for something like this in the states? I've received quotes for similar closet doors and they're well in the thousands.

These companies sell moveable walls also known as demountable- DIRTT, KI, Haworth and Teknion. They are mainly for commercial interiors butcan be installed in homes as well. Not really cost effective or affordable for the home. These products offer many benefits for commercial application and good for the envirnoment because so much drywall goes into the landfills. Europe has been ahead of the game in using movevale walls, just in the last 10 years North America is just catching on.
If anyone has a copy of DWELL laying around there is a moveable wall company more suited for residential application that usually advertizes in that mag.

3form has an unbelievable, almost unecessary, selection. it isn't cheap, but you can get an 8 x 4 ft door with frame for about 1500 depending on the surface - many of which are quite beautiful.

Check out the IKEA Hacker website. Folks have hacked the doors intended for IKEA Pax wardrobes into closet doors and even sliding room doors. Those doors can be had for under $200.
