If you're looking for a stylish new design hotel, check out this five-room converted maison particulier that opened last summer in Montmartre, with artist-designed spaces like the “Curtain of hair” room by artist and photographer Natacha Lesueur.

At Hotel Particulier Montmartre, you can find one-of-a-kind decor in suites like Martine Aballéa’s “chambre végétale,” above, or "Tree with ears,” below, designed by Pierre Fichefeux, a young illustrator and art director.

All this is made more surprising by the classic Directoire-style facade, tucked away on a secret passageway in the heart of historic Montmartre. Check out the website for more photos of the common spaces and the garden.

Can anyone tell me the pros of having a bathtub in the bedroom? I see that everywhere, but it just seems weird to me. The bath is where I go when I want to get away from everyone. A bedroom -- if shared -- seems to defeat the whole purpose.

The bathtub in the bedroom comes not so much from the American practice of bathing as a method for cleanliness, but the more European perspective of bathing as a sensual method of relaxation. In history, the observation of royalty while bathing was a ceremonial practice for the courts of the French Louis'.

Besides, how can anyone relax in a 5x8 white-tiled flourescent-lit cubicle?

My husband and I stayed there last year in the Tree With Ears room (third photo down). It was a complete luxury and joy. The owners are lovely people and even managed to accommodate our vegan diet to serve the most exquisite breakfasts. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hotel Particulier to anyone.

I don't know about the decor inside, but the outside view is serene and gorgeous. I'd give anything to be under that tree right now!
