Parisians are rather half-hearted when it comes to landscaping their windowboxes and balconies, unlike Londoners, who seem to turn every possible bit of space into an urban garden.
For much of the year, this city’s loveliness relies on the harmonious uniformity of its architecture, its shades of gray, gravel courtyards, ironwork balconies and stone facades. Luckily, many Paris buildings are so beautiful that they look great stark naked...
City parks and gardens are artfully conceived and abundantly attended to, and the City of Paris is holding a contest to encourage citizens to pitch in and turn their windows, balconies, outdoor walls and rooftops into green spaces, with special consideration for bio-friendly efforts. The deadline is July 31. In the meantime, here’s an Outdoor Home month glimpse of scattered flowers around Paris.

I haven't really noticed that about London, there's more green in exclusive or trendy neighborhoods. In Germany and Switzerland they are really putting plants and flowers everywhere they can.
