AT Europe: Parisian Flower Arranging

tulips.jpgOne of this year's flower-arranging trends here is to gather a bunch of flowers of one variety and tilt them to one side in the vase. This arrangement works best with strong, sculptural flowers that hold their shape, like calla lilies or the oversize tulips shown here. It's a bit stilted for some tastes, like a side ponytail, and somehow very French in its disciplining of nature. But it makes a statement with just a handful of flowers.

Last year I took a Wildflower Arrangements course at La Belle Ecole in Paris. It was amazing - we discussed a lot on the new flower arranging styles a la mode in Paris as well as more classical styles. I would definitely recommend La Belle Ecole to anyone interested in knowing something on the intimacies of French culture. Course include etiquette for men, arranging, socializing etc. Its Delightful!

The florist Michael George has been doing this type of arrangement for many years.
