In this new feature, our European correspondent, Kristin Hohenadel, will tackle your biggest problems and answer your hardest questions! Fire away, expats and travelers!

Dear AT Europe: My husband and I are buying an apartment in Paris in the Bastille and really need a great, modern sofa bed. Do you know anywhere in or around Paris that might have something, other than Fly or Ikea? Many thanks, Caroline

You have plenty of options, and now is a good time to buy with the bi-annual sales on for the next month offering up to 50% off.

If you’re looking for a modern and well-designed quality sofa bed (canapé-lit ), start with new couch emporium Autour d’un Canapé showroom in the 2nd arrondissement, which has a large selection of stylish sofa beds for daily or occasional use. You can check out options on their website, including the handsome modern canapé-lit “Flip” from Norberto Delfinetti pictured on the front page or the Canapé Casper from C+C above.

If you’re interested in sleek modern convertible couches that are built into custom-designed wall units, remember to take a look at the chic murphy bed armoires at La Maison du Convertible.
And if you need an extra bed more than a couch, don't forget the incredible disappearing ceiling bed from Espace Loggia.

Finally, check out the Scoop! Round couch/bed from Guido Rosati below that’s available from Saba Italia.

i see it was mentioned at the end of the post but I second Habitat. We have a sofa-bed from them and have been very happy with it. Modern and a bit nicer than the stuff at Fly or IKEA but still what I would call affordable.
You can order their stuff online but there are of course more than 1 shop in Paris to check out.

Now my question, I'm looking for a modern daybed in France, and I can't find anything! I need it for a smaller space so it cant be a fold out couch, i want just a modern frame (something with 3 sides, or at least a headboard and footbaord the same height so it looks couch-ish) for a regular twin mattress. Any ideas at all? I've only seen the one at IKEA which is very country style.

BoConcept has some pretty nice, modern stuff and it's not too too expensive. A lot of their sofas are mix-n-match (you choose a basic style and then select the legs/arms/colour/etc).
It's pretty interesting because you get a lot of flexibility but less good because you can't try out the exact model of sofa you'd be buying. I want to buy a 2-seater Indivi2 with high, narrow arms but can only find it with the wide, low arms and am reluctant to buy half-blind...
