French 18th-Century Reproduction Dog Beds
Toulouse

comtesse.jpgPrestige Houses is a Toulouse-based company that makes historic reproduction dog (and cat) beds based on designs from the over-the-top days when Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI were running Versailles...

mops.jpgPrestige director Pierre Zordan uses specially trained upholsterers, wood-carvers and decorative painters to build these crazy testaments to French royal decadence, from canopy beds in the à la Polonaise style that Marie-Antoinette favored to a slightly more restrained Roman-columned cat box with Marie-Antoinette coat-of-arms carved roses.

Gorgeous reproduction! I have no idea how much they actually cost, but I image they start at $1000 and go up.

Actually, that striped one with the arch is kind of good.

I think we've gone overboard into preciousland. Kind of gaudy for a dog or even most people.

Well, they definitely make a statement, don't they?

I think there should be a fainting couch to go along with the bed.

Y'know, this type of conspicuous consumption didn't turn out so well for the ancien regime. Just saying.

hilarious! can't get enough of extravagant stuff for pets.
i'd imagine they'd have some costumes and big powdered wigs to go with that...

There is a château in France that exposes a huge collection of the authentic pieces.

I agree with Lisa Hunter by the way ...

Here it is, chateau de Vendeuvre :

I'd only go there for the castle and gardens (they look gorgeous), acutally I hate pet accesories.
