I usually despise the color purple (uh ... the color, not the wonderful book & film) but I am really digging this!

This is amazing. Happy, positive, optimistic, but controlled and not over the top. It retains sophistication at the same time. Bravo!

It's not the purple, it's the combination of the purple with the warm sandy-beige walls. I love it.

I love purple. What a bold color to use in a kitchen. I really love it, don't know if I would use it though.

I have to agree with the above - if the purple was paired with a different color wall, it would look too over the top. The sandy walls really make this look.

I've always loved this color combo...

I have the original cabinets in my kitchen, and I don't want to replace them. I painted them white for lack of an idea, but now would like to paint the bases cabinets dove gray while leaving the wall cabinets white.

I thought I couldn't do that, but after seeing this, maybe I can.

Is it okay to have base and wall cabinets a different color?

God that's beautiful, and I love the shelf of teakettles all lined up. And the big sunny window! If you could marry a kitchen, maybe I'd marry this one.

Team Decor what color are your counters and backsplash?

I bought new upper cabinets for my kitchen that were a light maple color, but the bottoms were white. It didn't look right, so I painted the bottom a chocolate brown. I really like how it turned out, but purple would have really looked nice with my light gray walls! I love it.

i think the base and wall cabinets being a different colour isn't a problem. as several have mentioned here it's really the combination of the sandy-beige with the deep but earthy/brown purple that makes it work here.

what really makes that work is that the bottom cabinets are the stronger and deeper colour. the anchor colour is at the bottom and doesn't weigh down the upper area. dove gray might be too light to accomplish it as well but could still work. you may want to consider a stronger colour.

I really like the effect of the table, which is a different hue of purple that adds interest to the solid blocks of strong color on the cabinets--yet, isn't too busy. The colors work well with the bright natural light in this kitchen. And I love the way the bead-board(?) style of the cabinets balances the bold colors. With smooth cabinets, the effect would be more modern (not bad, but different--and I prefer this mixed-style look).

The rug looks nice, but how would one keep it clean?
