apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Tartan Walls
Paris

plaid-wall-at-caravane.jpgIt's always amusing to see how fashion and home decor echo and play off one another. Fashion magazines and department store catalogs are full of tartan prints this season and in addition to the usual tartan plaid throws for autumn and winter, tartan plaid pillows seem to be turning up everywhere. But these obviously tongue-in-cheek tartan-patterned walls in the showroom at Caravane take the cake!

Tartan just means plaid, right?

I recently got married to a Scotsman and we incorporated his tartan into the design of the ceremony & reception.

I have one word about this wall - subtlety is the key to tartans. SUBTLETY!

I actually love the materials Caravane used in their textiles. It's incredibly comfortable to sleep in, as well.

As far as the photo above, the more I look at it I like it. I think with the right home owner the look would be killer. In fact, I'm friends with a high profile photographer who likes to make his decor subtle and homey in a general sense, then throws you for a loop with something similar the wall pattern above. I could see him living there. Me, not-so-much, but I'd certainly visit!

I can appreciate a plaid pillow, but that's it. The rest is just a flashback to the horrid plaid trend of 1982-83. *shudder*

I'm pretty sure my dad had plaid wallpaper in his bedroom when I was a kid. His was a much duller color, though - I think it was olive green.

wow...
i love it.
i wouldn't have all those different patterns in the room as well, but on just one wall... i would do it!

i actually think i could enjoy the tartan wall if the rest of the room had clean lines and solid colors (*perhaps* with a choice accent pillow...but it's hard to say). If the couch was a little less clunky and perhaps in the teal or the red (?) color in the paint it might work

but to each his own!
